As far as guns, the US is somewhere middle-ish in regards violent crime. The UK is worse, even Norway and Denmark have orders of magnitude more crime than the US.

You forgot to mention Sweden, really good reason why the recent shift in these countries.

i remember the moment the first real crack in my faith happened as a jehovah's witness.

i was sitting in the kingdom hall during the watchtower study where, as is common, the article was talking about how the israelites as a nation abandoned jehovah.. "but wait," i thought, "having a nation represent him here on earth was part of his plan.

For me it was at the Sydney 2003 international convention when I first saw old rubber face on the big screen.

My enduring thought and take home from that "wonderful provision" was, wow what a credibility deficit these guys have.

20 Years Occupying Afghanistan, Nothing Achieved

so the occupation of afghanistan is coming to an end and, as predicted, they achieved absolutely nothing in that 20 years apart from:.

the death of 2,300+ service personnel and tens of thousands more seriously maimed or injured.. handing $billions or even $trillions of taxpayer dollars to defence contractors (so the military industrial complex wins, even if the military doesn't have a clear victory).. has this lengthy but short-term military occupation really changed anything in the country?

it doesn't appear so.. i said at the time that the us wouldn't have the staying power to enact real change.

there must be something magic about that place, the Soviet Union, which was toughened up by winning a real big nasty war, had the same fate there.

No nothing magic at all, just a people that are driven by a giant meat grinder disguised as a religion, that knows no limit on human consumption. An opponent that is hamstrung by political correctness and multiculturalism, with little understanding of the enemy, no clear goal and no tolerance for a high body count, never stood a chance. The US should called it a day when they used up all tomahawk cruise missiles and B52 "dumb bombs" that were approaching the use by date and come home.

The end result - we defeated the Americans - Allah the merciful is with us, praise to mohammud, peace be upon him, next jihad please.

he said that the new testament wasn't written for the great crowd (me).

he said that it only applies to the anointed, and "by extension" the nt applies to the great crowd.

most people over the generations have taken pride in their heritage, nationality and country they are from.

it’s not uncommon to hear of “proud” italians and proud irish people , as an example.

are you proud of your country and your nationality or do you feel shame or indifference?.

Kingdom Hall in Barrington, Illinois

i often drive past a kingdom hall in barrington, illinois, where, when i was still a witness, i had visited a few times.

it wasn't too far from the hall i attended and we got to know people from this congregation.. i recently passed it by and it appeared there was a new sign in place.

yesterday i decided to pull into the parking lot on my way home, and it appears that the hall has been sold and is now occupied by seventh day adventists (i did a check online when i got home).
